Trouble With Snoring?
At our practice, we understand that many people suffer from the nightly irritation of snoring. Whether you are the one with the snoring problem or their partner, snoring can be a disruption of your life and you need a solution.
What Makes Us Snore
Snoring is typically the result of obstruction of your airway, making breathing more difficult. This could be the tissue structure of your throat collapsing, large tonsils or your tongue relaxing into the back of your throat as you sleep. These are common causes as many of the muscles in your airway will relax when you are asleep; this narrows your airway, causing snoring.
Custom Made Snoring Appliances
In order to help you and everyone around you sleep more peacefully, our dentists may recommend the use of a snoring appliance to treat your snoring. Your appliance will be custom made to fit you as comfortably and effectively as possible. When you wear this appliance, your airway will be kept open as it advances the lower jaw and the tongue forward in a position that allows the airway to remain open even when you are relaxed or asleep.
In many cases, snoring appliances can help sleep apnea, but further diagnosis from a sleep physician would be necessary to verify the existence of sleep apnea.
